Col Kevan D. Lewis enlisted in 1998 and served one tour as a Sound Engineer at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., where he supported multiple White House and Marine Corps engagements.
After commissioning in Dec 2001 and graduating from The Basic School and Engineer School in 2002, he reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB) at Camp Pendleton, CA. At 1st CEB he served as Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and S-3 Staff Officer. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) as an Engineer Platoon Commander in 2003, and again with BLT 1/1, 15th MEU, in 2004, in support of Operation Unified Response and OIF.
In 2006 Col Lewis began a course of study in Regional Security Affairs—Middle East / North Africa at Navy Postgraduate School, followed by Arabic Language Training at Defense Language Institute, in Monterey, CA. He reported to the US Embassy, Cairo, Egypt in 2008 where he completed training as a Foreign Area Officer.
In 2009 Col Lewis reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron-372 at Camp Pendleton, CA, and served as the Engineer Company Commander and Operations Officer, deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in 2009 as Engineer Company Commander. In 2011, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron-371 in Yuma, AZ where he served as the Operations Officer and again deployed in support of OEF.
In 2012 Col Lewis reported to US Central Command in Tampa, FL and served as an Engineer Planner in the J-4 Directorate of Logistics and Engineering. His portfolio included Engineer Force Generation and Contingency and Operation Planning.
In 2015 Col Lewis reported to 7th Engineer Support Battalion and served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer. During that period, he deployed for six months to Kuwait as an Engineer Planner for Combined-Joint Task Force–Operation Inherent Resolve.
In 2018 Col Lewis reported to U.S. Marine Forces, Pacific, in Honolulu, HI, serving as the Force Engineer. He led the Force Engineer team in planning, training, exercises, and operations in the Indo-Pacific Theater.
In 2020 Col Lewis assumed the duties of Inspector-Instructor for 6th Engineer Support Battalion, headquartered in Portland, OR, with ten subordinate sites across the United States. As I-I, he oversaw the divestment of three bridge companies and execution of multiple Annual Training and Innovative Readiness Training events.
In 2022 Col Lewis completed a one-year Secretary of Defense Executive Fellowship representing the DoD at WEC Energy Group in Milwaukee, WI.
In 2023 Col Lewis joined the Office of Defense Partnership in the U.S. Embassy Abu Dhabi, UAE and served as the Director of Training, overseeing Security Assistance partner activities, including Emirati military participation in US schools, exercises, and training.
In 2024 Col Lewis assumed his current duties at the Marine Corps Training Mission, UAE.
Col Lewis has a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Sound Recording from Brigham Young University and a Master of Arts in Regional Security Studies-Middle East/North Africa from Naval Postgraduate School. He is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School DEP, Command and Staff College DEP, and Joint and Combined Warfighting School (JPME II).
Col Lewis’ awards include: Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
