Amos pay respect at the Reunion of Honor memorial on Iwo To, formerly known as Iwo Jima, March 19 during the annual Reunion of Honor ceremony. This year’s ceremony commemorated the 69th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. "When I founded the Joint Reunion of Honor in 1995, it was my intention that it was for that year only," said Snowden, the oldest surviving Marine of the battle. "It was such a success that we have been doing it each year since." Tong is the deputy chief of mission for the U.S. Embassy in Japan, and Amos is commandant of the Marine Corps.

An MV-22 Osprey with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, lands on the USS Ashland (LSD-48), Feb. 28. The 31st MEU recently embarked upon the three ships of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) Amphibious Ready Group for the regularly-scheduled Spring Patrol. The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps’ force of choice for the Asia-Pacific region and is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU.

This year’s ceremony commemorated the 69th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. "When I founded the Joint Reunion of Honor in 1995, it was my intention that it was for that year only," said Snowden, the oldest surviving Marine of the battle. "It was such a success that we have been doing it each year since." Tong is the deputy chief of mission for the U.S. Embassy in Japan, and Amos is commandant of the Marine Corps.

An MV-22 Osprey with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, lands on the USS Ashland (LSD-48), Feb. 28. The 31st MEU recently embarked upon the three ships of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) Amphibious Ready Group for the regularly-scheduled Spring Patrol. The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps’ force of choice for the Asia-Pacific region and is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU.
